Lauren
A Chosen, he was the one the Ellcrys spoke to first of her death. He later approached Ander and then Eventine to tell them about the problem. He and the rest of the Chosen were brutally slaughtered by the Reaper shortly after the Ellcry's revelation.
Jase
A Chosen, he was brutally slaughtered by the Reaper shortly after the Ellcrys' revelation.
Ellcrys
A tree created by Elven magic from before the Great Wars, she was made to maintain the Forbidding to prevent the Demons from invading the Four Lands. She spoke first to Lauren about her dying, then later to Allanon, then to Amberle, giving the Elven girl her seed as well. The Ellcrys provided Allanon with a silver staff which, as long as it was carried into battle, would make the Demons vulnerable to Elven weapons. Allanon was there with her when she finally died. However, her death was late enough that Amberle was still able to hold the Ellcrys to her after submerging the seed into the Bloodfire and become the new Ellcrys.
Dagda Mor
The leader of the Demons from the Forbidding and the wielder of the Staff of Power, he was among the first three Demons to return to the Four Lands. It was he who sent the Changling to act as a spy within the Elessedil palace and the Reaper to hunt down and kill Amberle so that a rebirth would not be possible. He also called out demon-wolves and Furies to attack Allanon, Wil, and Amberle. His power was great enough that he could summon all the Demons from inside the Forbidding to the Four Lands once the Ellcrys was weak enough. During the final battle, he battled Allanon while seated on a giant bat-like Demon; Allanon, seated on Dancer, destroyed him.
Reaper
The most dangerous Demon of all, it killed not because it wanted to, but because it needed to. It killed the six Chosen while they slept in their beds and then started stalking Wil and Amberle after they entered Drey Wood with six Elven Hunters and Crispin and killed two of them, Kian and Rin. It followed them through the Matted Breaks and caught up with them at an Elven fortress located on the Pykon, where it killed Dilph and Katsin and then later, while the remaining three were trying to escape, threw Crispin off a catwalk. It tumbled off the catwalk as well but somehow managed to get out and track Wil and Amberle to the Hollows and Spire's Reach. At Safehold, it killed Wisp and attacked Wil while his corpse was still dangling from its mouth, and after a long battle, Wil was finally able to properly call up the power of the Elfstones to reduce it to ashes.
Changeling
A Demon that could change into anything and had unmatched power save for that of the Dagda Mor, it was sent to Arborlon to learn of the Elves' plans. It killed Went, the old groundskeeper, and masqueraded as him for a short time, then killed Manx, Eventine's wolfhound, and disguised itself as him. Through Manx's eyes, the Changling was able to learn about what Amberle was doing and about plans concerning the Elven army. On the night following the collapse of the fifth ramp of the Elfitch, it killed Dardan and Rhoe, the King's personal guards, and revealed itself to Eventine with the intent to kill him. Eventine died as a result of his sustained wounds, but not until days later and not until he had first killed the Changling.
Ander Elessedil
Eventine's second youngest son, Lauren came to him first to tell him about the Ellcrys dying. Ander was present at Eventine's first meeting with Allanon, who entrusted him to the care of his father. After Amberle returned to Arborlon and they had a meeting concerning her role in saving the Elven nation, Ander was the first person to stand beside her. He greeted the Free Corps commander, Stee Jans, and made quick friends with him. At Halys Cut, he commanded Eventine's section of the army after the king was felled by a club. After the retreat, he commanded the entire army and sent Flyn to tell Kael Pindanon that he was not to attempt retaking Worl Run. He gave up command for a brief while when Eventine was able to battle again, but after the Changling attacked the king, he commanded once more, leading the army in the war against the Demons on the Elfitch and outside the Gardens of Life. When Amberle finally came back to Arborlon and became the Ellcrys, Eventine died, leaving Ander Elessedil as King of the Elves.
Went

Manx
Eventine's wolfhound, the Changling killed him and masqueraded as him for most of the duration of Amberle's trip to Safehold. It was through the Changling, as Manx, that the Dagda Mor learned of everything, especially the plans for Amberle. On the night following the collapse of the fifth ramp of the Elfitch, the Changling ended its masquerade and attacked Eventine with the intent to kill him. Eventine died as a result of his sustained wounds, but not until days later and not until he had first killed the Changling.
